    Get PDF
Smart healthcare systems are one of the critical applications of the internet of things. They benefit many categories of the population and provide significant improvement to healthcare services. Smart healthcare systems are also susceptible to many threats and exploits because they run without supervision for long periods of time and communicate via open channels. Moreover, in many implementations, healthcare sensor nodes are implanted or miniaturized and are resource-constrained. The potential risks on patients/individuals’ life from the threats necessitate that securing the connections in these systems is of utmost importance. This thesis provides a solution to secure end-to-end communications in such systems by proposing an authenticated key establishment protocol. The main objective of the protocol is to examine how physical unclonable functions could be utilized as a lightweight root of trust. The protocol’s design is based on rigid security requirements and inspired by the vulnerability of physical unclonable function to machine learning modeling attacks as well as the use of a ratchet technique. The proposed protocol verification and analysis revealed that it is a suitable candidate for resource-constrained smart healthcare systems. The proposed protocol’s design also has an impact on other important aspects such as anonymity of sensor nodes and gateway-lose scenario

Mobile phones are often known as a medium of self-expression and individuality for the younger generation. Generation Y is an important target market for mobile phone service providers. In the Jordanian market, the mobile phone service providers are facing a very competitive environment and many studies have shown that maintaining customer loyalty is a very challenging task for marketers nowadays. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the factors that influence customer loyalty towards mobile phone service provider among Generation Y in Jordan. The current study examined the relationships between service quality, perceived value, perceived enjoyment and technological perceptions, and customer loyalty. The study also examined the role of customer satisfaction as a mediating variable and trust as a moderating variable between satisfaction and customer loyalty. A survey was conducted among 541 respondents in the Generation Y category in Jordan. Data was analyzed using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The analyses revealed significant relationships between service quality, perceived enjoyment, technological perceptions and customer satisfaction, and customer loyalty, but the relationship between perceived value and customer loyalty was not significant. In addition, customer satisfaction mediated the relationship between service quality, perceived value and perceived enjoyment, and customer loyalty. On the other hand, customer satisfaction did not mediate the relationship between technological perceptions and customer loyalty. Moreover, trust did not moderate the relationship between satisfaction and customer loyalty. This study offers several implications on how managers of mobile phone service providers can ensure the long-term success relationship of their customer in light of the strong competitive advantage. In future studies, it would be interesting to include more variables to represent the entire relationship on customer loyalty towards Generation Y in mobile phone operators

TraceAll: A Real-Time Processing for Contact Tracing Using Indoor Trajectories

    Get PDF
The rapid spread of infectious diseases is a major public health problem. Recent developments in fighting these diseases have heightened the need for a contact tracing process. Contact tracing can be considered an ideal method for controlling the transmission of infectious diseases. The result of the contact tracing process is performing diagnostic tests, treating for suspected cases or self-isolation, and then treating for infected persons; this eventually results in limiting the spread of diseases. This paper proposes a technique named TraceAll that traces all contacts exposed to the infected patient and produces a list of these contacts to be considered potentially infected patients. Initially, it considers the infected patient as the querying user and starts to fetch the contacts exposed to him. Secondly, it obtains all the trajectories that belong to the objects moved nearby the querying user. Next, it investigates these trajectories by considering the social distance and exposure period to identify if these objects have become infected or not. The experimental evaluation of the proposed technique with real data sets illustrates the effectiveness of this solution. Comparative analysis experiments confirm that TraceAll outperforms baseline methods by 40% regarding the efficiency of answering contact tracing querie

This study aims to explain Arabic-speaking students’ willingness to communicate in English while studying outside their country. It is hoped that this study will add value to the limited empirical research evidence regarding a person’s willingness to communicate in English as a second language, in the context of studying abroad in Malaysia. Furthermore, this study also aims to investigate the influence of an individual’s attitude towards intercultural learning community, communication self-confidence (SC) and motivation on their willingness to communicate (WTC). Situation cognition, socio-educational model, and willingness to communicate model were applied to underpin the theoretical framework of this research A total of 180 Arabic-speaking learners at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) were surveyed and 12 of them were interviewed. Data was collected during the 2010/2011 academic year using the ‘non-probability sampling’ technique. This investigation aimed to determine the morphological characteristics of the palate of bronze black turkey by gross anatomy, light and scanning electron microscopy. The oral roof (palate) constitutes 87.73% of the oropharyngeal roof length, comprising two parts; rostral and caudal. The rostral part of is characterized by the presence of median palatine ridge, rostral and caudal lateral palatine ridges, narrow part of the choanal slit and three rows of palatine papillae. The median palatine ridge shows rostral continued and caudal interrupted parts. This ridge as shown by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) bears 4-5 transverse furrows at the level of the beginning of the caudal lateral palatine ridges. Numerous Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS)-positive compound tubular mucous maxillary, palatine and sphenopterygoid salivary glands are distributed in the mucosa of the palate. From all above mentioned, it's clear that the palate in turkey reveals some different anatomical features in compared with that of the other birds

This study was carried out to provide a detailed description about the upper beak of turkey, regarding its gross anatomical, light and scanning electron microscopic morphology. The upper beak extends in a hook like infront of the lower beak. It measures 53.80 mm long. The height and width of the upper beak increase caudalwards. SEM shows that the tip and the lateral sides of the upper beak are covered with numerous flakes of keratin. At the free tip of the beak, these keratinized flakes have an irregular appearance which may be due to desquamation of the epithelium during manipulation of foods. Immediately in front of the angle of the mouth, the lateral edge of the upper beak is characterized by the presence of transverse furrows which giving it a serrated appearance. The upper beak of the turkey consists of a bony support covered by dermal and epidermal layers
